James Ireland Architect was founded by James Ireland in 1985. This firm continued during the period of 1995 to 2007 when James Ireland designed the residential work of Stark Ireland Architects Inc. In June 2007, James Ireland left his association with John Stark to focus on his own separate practice.

Over the past 12 years, James has designed many cottages and country houses. Many of these have been built on the shores of the Muskoka lakes, Georgian Bay, Haliburton, the Kawarthas, and the Atlantic Ocean. There have been large lodge-like cottages, smaller cabins, boathouses, and country houses. In some instances, the new building has transformed and added to an older structure. Each new work has been designed to suit its environment and to provide an experience that is special to its place. The designs show a special interest in the pleasures of water and the countryside.

The firm works with the best local builders and local suppliers where possible. We value these associations. The buildings are hand crafted works of wood, glass, and stone. They may be rustic and exhibit the roughness of the wood and the stone or they may be much more sophisticated but they still retain the pleasures of their constituent materials.
